Abstract

This study investigates the representation of the Brazilian Military Dictatorship (1964-1985) in poetry, literature, and scientific articles. The primary objective is to highlight the heroism of those who resisted and fought for democracy. The research encompasses an analysis of literary works such as "Incidente em Antares" by Erico Verissimo, which uses satire to criticize authoritarianism; "Sombras dos Reis Barbudos" by José J. Veiga, which employs magical realism to address oppression; "As Meninas" by Lygia Fagundes Telles, which offers an intimate view of the repression experienced by young women; and "Brasil: Nunca Mais", organized by Paulo Evaristo Arns, which documents the use of torture by the regime. Additionally, various scientific articles were analyzed to narrate the stories of heroes and heroines of the dictatorship, such as Marli, Clarice Herzog, Damaris, Crimeia, and Conceição Imaculada de Oliveira. The results reveal that both literature and scientific articles played crucial roles in the documentation and critique of the military regime. It is concluded that these works are essential for the preservation of historical memory and for education about the horrors of the dictatorship and the importance of democratic resistance.
