Abstract

There is an ongoing debate in the academic community regarding the possibility of reintroducing introductory concepts of Differential and Integral Calculus in Basic Education, specifically at the high school level. The absence of this content at this stage of education raises two main issues: the exclusion of foundational concepts essential to the development of various applications in the modern world and the missed opportunity to mitigate the high dropout rates in higher education programs that include Differential and Integral Calculus in their curricula. In this context, this article aims to present a brief historical overview of the development of Integral Calculus, beginning with the earliest recorded debates related to the notion of infinitesimals and culminating in concepts associated with the Riemann integral. Subsequently, two exploratory activities addressing concepts related to the Riemann integral are proposed using the GeoGebra software. The construction of the commands is described in detail to enable their reproduction and adaptation by teachers. It is argued that the implementation of the proposed activities contributes to a more fluid learning of concepts considered complex, as it combines graphical resources with the exploration of situations close to students’ everyday experiences.
