Abstract

The legend analyzed operates as a discursive device for reproducing female stereotypes structured by gender prejudice, sustained by religious values that associate women with submission and moral inferiority. The study is based on three hypotheses: the historical association of the female figure with spiritual evils; the victimization of indigenous peoples as a strategy of conquest and colonization; and the interactional control of public power through the imposition of Jesuit knowledge on young Caiçara people. Based on Critical Discourse Analysis and Hidden Discourse, applied to the legend "Núpcias Caiçaras" (Caiçara Nuptials), the qualitative documentary research, anchored in Fairclough (2001), Galego (2025), and Scott (2013), reveals the crystallization of subaltern female representations, legitimizing the critical approach adopted.
