'UMA FANTASIOSA HISTÓRIA’ PARA DESCOLONIZAR E FORTALECER O PENSAMENTO DE LEITORES DECOLONIAIS:

ressignificações de Dom Pedro I na literatura juvenil

Abstract

This article emphasizes how fiction can serve as a critical space for constructing imaginaries that differ from ideologically dominant ones, particularly within children’s and young adult literature, by fostering reflections on history and identity. We focus on hybrid narratives that combine history and fiction, proposing a decolonial approach that challenges the traditional and romanticized version of history, thereby opening possibilities for more critical pedagogical practices. The study analyzes the work “As cartas de Antônio: uma fantasiosa história do primeiro reinado” (2019), by Luiz Eduardo de Castro Neves, highlighting how the narrative enables a decolonial approach in the classroom, promotes the development of decolonial readers in elementary education, and encourages questioning of hegemonic discourses. Special attention is given to how, within the diegesis, the historically derived character Dom Pedro I is constructed through ambiguities and symbolic tensions. The theoretical framework includes decolonial studies (Mignolo, 2003; Castro-Gómez, Grosfoguel, 2007; Quijano, 2014), hybrid narratives of history and fiction in the context of children’s and young adult literature (Santos, 2023), and research on literature teaching and literary mediation (Cerdeira, 2024; Castillo, 2020; Fleck, 2019; Freire, 2005).
