This article aims to show how the theatrical criticism exercised in newsrooms during the lead years (1966 – 1971) was not only an analysis of the plays on display, but also an important form of resistance and artistic expression. João Apolinário, in the newspaper Última Hora, and Sábato Magaldi, in Jornal da Tarde, used their texts to not only comment on what was happening on the scene, but also to reflect on the political and social events of the time, seeking to expand the public's knowledge and provoke deeper reflections. Through the analysis of theatrical works, critics were able to address sensitive topics that were often censored by the current regime, using space in the newspaper as a strategic tool for positioning in the field of arts and cultural resistance. The methodology used in this study involved not only bibliographic research on the topic, but also a detailed comparative study of published criticism, seeking to identify common and divergent points between the approaches of the two critics.
