Abstract

In this paper we discuss the role of multimodality in science education, based on studies on the theme, emphasizing the: multimodal discourse of science teachers; use of different modes by students in science classes; multimodality and teaching resources. We start from the premise that meanings are negotiated in social interactions, which involve the multiple modes of communication available. Moreover, the learning of scientific concepts cannot be detached from the understanding of how to represent these concepts and the meaning of these representations, so it requires multiple representations and multimodal representations. A challenge for research involving multimodality in Science Teaching is to consider the different possibilities available with the advancement of information and communication technologies.
