A Pertinência E O Aspecto Trans-Histórico De “Latinoamérica”, Do Grupo Calle 13, Em Perspectiva Decolonial

Abstract

These lines analyze the song “Latinoamérica” (2010) by the Puerto Rican group Calle 13 as an aesthetic production of resistance inscribed in Latin American decolonial thought. It starts from the assumption that music operates as a poetic counter-historiography, capable of challenging hegemonic narratives forged by the coloniality of power and by modern projects of a Eurocentric and North-centered nature. Anchored in references to decolonial thought, the study investigates how the lyrics construct a collective voice situated at the intersection of territory, body, memory, and belonging as central axes of a historically subalternized identity. The analysis shows that the rejection of the commodification of nature, the valorization of ancestry, and the explicit critique of imperialism configure the song as a trans-historical object, as it encompasses past, present, and possibly future times without losing its validity, given the geopolitical structure of colonial logics. The paper concludes that “Latinoamérica” can be understood as a form of decolonial pedagogy, contributing to the formation of a critical historical consciousness and to the reconfiguration of Latin American subjects as protagonists of their own narratives.
