O espaço ficcional em Um pobre-diabo, de Graciliano Ramos

Abstract

This article analyzes the construction of the fictional space in the short story Um pobre-diabo, by Graciliano Ramos, first published in 1947 in the collection Insônia. Throughout this Ramosian narrative, it is clear that the spatial configuration influences the narrative development, becoming, simultaneously, a central aspect in the formal and thematic structuring of the short story. In addition to investigating the formalization of space in the narrative, the aim is to identify how the protagonist's relationship with the space of the office gives rise to a set of effects of meanings, which produce antagonistic feelings in the character, such as oppression, alienation and discomfort. The analysis is based on a bibliographical research, of a qualitative-interpretative nature, founded on the principles of topoanalysis. The analytical reading of the short story is related to the theoretical and critical contributions of Borges Filho (2007), Barbieri (2009), Lins (1976), Soethe (2007), among others. n the construction of space in Um pobre-diabo, it is clear that the functionality of the spatial category goes beyond the limiting idea of ​​a setting for the unfolding of actions, assuming structural and symbolic importance in the narrative.
