ANÁLISE DOS ASPECTOS FONOLÓGICOS, MORFOLÓGICOS E LEXICAIS DOS SINAIS PARA A COR VERDE NA LIBRAS

The objective of this paper is to present an excerpt from Fischer's (2024) master’s thesis, focusing on the results of the analysis of phonological, morphological, and lexical aspects of signs for the color green in Brazilian Sign Language (Libras). The data were collected from the National Inventory of the Linguistic Development of Libras (Quadros et al., 2018) and analyzed in terms of phonological (variation and stability), morphological (structure and formation), and lexical (influence or not of Portuguese) aspects. The results showed both variability and stability in the phonological aspects of signs for the color green. The sign for GREEN, initialized with the letter “V,” showed stability in characteristics such as palm orientation, place of articulation, and movement, but variations in hand configurations and non-manual markers. The sign related to the color of sputum remained stable in almost all aspects, except for the movement of the dominant hand. Morphologically, a simple sign with no Portuguese influence, associated with sputum, was identified, as well as compound signs, such as the one combining the initialized letter "V" with the movement of the non-dominant hand. Lexically, signs with and without Portuguese influence were found. The sign without Portuguese influence, referring to sputum, is used in São Paulo, Santa Catarina, and Rio Grande do Sul, while the sign influenced by Portuguese is formed by the initialization with the letter "V" and belongs to the same family as the sign for CARVÃO, which gave rise to signs for black and other colors, recorded in 12 Brazilian states.
