Abstract

Data-driven economy dominates global markets and is consolidating itself as a success model, represented by technology giants that are among the most valuable companies in the world in 2023. Realizing that data has an economic dimension, even in systems that consider it as aspects of human personality, this essay explores the topic of monetization of personal data in Brazil. The research took place through an exploratory analysis of bibliographical references, with the aim of verifying the existence of a legal possibility of monetizing personal data in the Brazilian legal system, mainly considering the protective system established by the LGPD, in addition to exploring issues and challenges such as pricing and externalities that may arise from monetization. In addition to arguing that it is possible to talk about monetization in the Brazilian system, even if in a very restricted and conditioned way, we extrapolated the subject to verify questions about how it would be possible to assign prices based on measurements of foreign markets.
