Abstract

This article presents a study about the changes in the chain of custody resulting from the updates and developments brought by Law 13,964/19, which changed the Code of Criminal Procedure (CPP). It presents the legislative section on themes that refer to the chain of custody: a study on the evolution of material evidence until the recent change, reflections on the theme from a bibliographic study and analysis of statistical data from the State Court of Justice Tocantins (TJTO) referring to the annulment of processes for breach of the chain of custody. Finally, to present data on the adequacy of the Scientific Police Units and the General Forensics Institutes in view of the changes in the chain of custody brought about by law 13,964/19, in the North region of Brazil.
