Abstract

An expressive field of work and research has been produced, over the last years, around the metaphorical process. However, most of these studies focus on corpus exclusively composed of verbal language, not considering other semiotic modes. On the other hand, little attention is paid to the persuasive / argumentative character of the metaphorical process, an issue that becomes even more significant when transposed to the nonverbal field. Therefore, this article, through a bibliographic methodological approach, aims to promote the analysis of the way in which verbal and nonverbal modes can act in a argumentative way in the construction of the metaphorical process. For this, we selected as corpus the genre charge. In this case, in particular, cartoons directed to the conceptual construction of the term social security reform. As a result, we observe that in the cartoons analyzed, multimodal metaphors were used in the argumentative direction proposed by their producers, and these cartoons were seen as a protest against the government's Social Security Reform.
