The Good Immigrant: 26 Writers Reflect on America (2019) é um livro composto por ensaios de diferentes autores sobre as suas próprias experiências enquanto imigrantes de primeira ou segunda geração nos Estados Unidos da América. Tendo em conta o facto de ter sido publicado durante a administração de Donald Trump, um período em que os direitos dos imigrantes estavam a ser ameaçados, esta obra apresenta um testemunho cru das suas vidas. O conto autobiográfico de Dani Fernandez, "No es Suficiente", é um desses testemunhos e o principal objeto de análise deste ensaio. Considerando a mentalidade norte-americana que estabelece o país como um lugar de oportunidades para todos e a promessa de condições iguais para qualquer indivíduo, independentemente da sua origem, o relato de Fernandez é uma contranarrativa desta crença (inter)nacional. Levanta sobretudo questões sobre a viabilidade e a veracidade de mitos como o do self-made man. Como tal, este artigo pretende analisar estas questões através da exploração dos tópicos da Educação, Estereótipos e Linguagem para a desconstrução deste mito tal como é percecionado pelos imigrantes.
