Abstract

This paper deals with the impacts caused by the Covid-19 pandemic in the hotel sector in Florianópolis / SC. The unstable
cycles that negatively impact the accommodation sector, among which, wars and health, are one of the great management
challenges. In this sense, the research aims to elucidate the following question: what were the impacts of covid-19 on
the hotel sector in Florianópolis, as well as, what measures are being taken to mitigate its effects? In order to achieve
this purpose, due to the breadth of the theme, the investigation was delimited in the period between the month of March
with the so-called pre-pandemic until the month of November 2020. As sources of data, search documents generated
by entities who represent the sector. The content analysis method was used to systematize data and understanding it.
Since the health crisis is a new phenomenon with an indefinite duration, the research does not intend to present conclusive
inferences, but rather to describe the panorama of a phenomenon still in progress. As a result, it was found that the means
of accommodation had their demands reduced sharply due to suspensions of events, travel, social isolation, lockdowns,
measures adopted in an attempt to contain the rate of transmission of the virus and prevent a collapse in health. With
this scenario, the hotel industry runs across the time to mitigate such impacts and minimize losses as much as possible.
Covid-19 is being a hard reality for tourism, and its entire production chain, revealing its fragility and, at the same time,
confirmed its economic importance.
