DARK FEMINISM AND NECROPOLITICS:

THE INVISIBILIZATION OF FEMALE BODIES IN THE ‘NEW EYES OF PUBLIC SECURITY’

Abstract

This study aims to analyze facial recognition technologies used in public security in the State of Bahia, which claim to meet efficiency, productivity, and speed requirements, prioritizing quanti-tative results. To this end, bibliographical research will be conducted, engaging with national and international experiences and focusing on the practical impacts of these tools. The study is developed based on the widespread implementation of these technologies in the state, which, having received substantial government funding, are promoted as the greatest advancement in Bahia’s public security history, even being employed in political campaigns and gaining popular approval under the label of “new eyes of public security.”This research seeks to demonstrate that the artificial intelligence mechanisms embedded in these facial recognition technologies are not merely tools for public security but rather serve to perpetuate a patriarchal, hetero-cisnormative, and racist structure. Within this framework, the female issue plays a central role, highlighting the invisibilization and control of women’s bodies, particularly Black and marginal-ized women, in what is configured as "gender necropolitics." Furthermore, the study engages with the concept of dark feminism, which critiques feminist discourses complicit with neoliberal and exclusionary structures, reinforcing oppressive systems under the guise of progress and security. The fundamental question guiding this analysis is: if a model of public security does not adhere to democratic and inclusive principles, can it be legitimately institutionalized?
