Mission
The mission of Vertentes do Direito is to foster the dissemination of scientifically grounded knowledge that is relevant to society, by promoting the production and exchange of ideas within legal and interdisciplinary research. The journal serves as a platform for publicizing research that contributes to the advancement of legal thought and practice, with a particular emphasis on democratic values, justice, and human rights.
Peer Review Process
Submitted manuscripts undergo an initial editorial screening to assess their relevance to the journal’s scope and compliance with formal submission guidelines. If approved at this stage, the manuscripts are then subject to double-blind peer review, in which both authors and reviewers remain anonymous.
Reviewers evaluate the originality, methodological rigor, theoretical contribution, and relevance of the manuscript to the field. Based on these evaluations, the manuscript may be:
-
Accepted for publication
-
Accepted with minor or major revisions
-
Rejected
Authors are informed of the editorial decision along with reviewers’ comments, which aim to improve the quality of the submission.
Open Access Policy
Vertentes do Direito adheres to the principle that free and open access to scientific knowledge fosters greater global democratization of information. All content is available at no cost to users or institutions. Users are allowed to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles without prior permission from the publisher or the authors, provided proper attribution is given.
Publication Frequency
The journal adopts a continuous publication model, which allows articles to be published individually as soon as they are approved and finalized, without having to wait for the closure of a specific issue.
Ethics and Good Practices in Scientific Publishing
Vertentes do Direito follows the ethical principles and guidelines established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). All stakeholders involved in the publication process—authors, editors, reviewers, and the editorial team—must adhere to standards of integrity, transparency, and responsibility.
Plagiarism, self-plagiarism, data fabrication, and any other forms of academic misconduct are strictly prohibited. In cases of misconduct, appropriate actions will be taken, including manuscript retraction, reporting to institutions, and potential restrictions on future submissions.
Archiving
This journal uses the LOCKSS/CLOCKSS system to create a distributed archiving system among participating libraries, allowing them to create permanent archives of the journal for preservation and restoration purposes.
LOCKSS
The LOCKSS system (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) ensures the safe and permanent archiving of your journal’s cache and is supported by OJS. LOCKSS is an open-source software developed by the Stanford University Library that allows online journals to be preserved by regularly crawling their webpages for newly published content and archiving it. Each archive is continuously validated against copies from other libraries. If the content is found to be corrupted or lost, those copies are used for restoration.
Setting up LOCKSS support in OJS is necessary only when an issue is nearly ready for publication. Follow these steps:
Identify 6 to 10 libraries that will register and store your journal’s cache. For example, choose institutions with which editors or Editorial Board members are affiliated, and/or institutions already participating in LOCKSS. Visit the participating libraries page. Use the prepared invitation for (i) Libraries participating in LOCKSS or (ii) Libraries NOT participating in LOCKSS.
CLOCKSS
Open Journal Systems also supports the CLOCKSS (Controlled Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) system to ensure a secure and permanent archive for the journal. CLOCKSS is based on the open-source LOCKSS software developed at the Stanford University Library, which allows libraries to regularly preserve selected registered journals. Each archive is continuously validated against other library records, and if the content is deemed corrupted or lost, the other records or the journal itself are used for restoration.
Subscribe to the CLOCKSS service by visiting the CLOCKSS website.
