Abstract

In the current educational context, investigating variables related to socioeconomic and sociodemographic differences among higher education students is crucial for understanding factors associated with academic success. This study analyzes the socioeconomic profile of students in the Information Systems course at (Omitted for review) using Educational Data Mining (EDM) based on the publicly available dataset from the 2021 National Student Performance Exam (ENADE) (ENADE, 2021), provided by the National Institute for Educational Studies and Research Anísio Teixeira (INEP) (INEP, 2021). The aim is to diagnose and understand the socioeconomic characteristics of these students, identifying both in-school and out-of-school factors that may influence their continuation and completion of the undergraduate course. The results showed that the majority of students in the analyzed courses are male. Additionally, most students do not work, live with their parents, and are financially dependent on them. They have not received scientific scholarships and attended public schools throughout their high school education. These findings are essential for understanding students' contexts and the challenges they face during their university studies.
