Abstract

The objective of this work was to characterize fishing in the Boca do Arapirí community, municipality of Alenquer. Data were collected through semi-structured questionnaire interviews and the informations was analyzed through descriptive statistics. For the calculation of the CPUE was used the unit kg/ fisherman.day. The informations collected was related with annual hydrological cycle of the Amazon River, obtained from the website of the National Water Agency. Fishing is the main economic activity in the community and fishermen fish on average 3.6 (± 1.02) days / week using nearby environments. The lake is the environment most explored more frequently between April and October, whose purpose is food and commerce. Seven gear used in the fishing activity were identified, with greater emphasis on the gillnets (80%). The highest rates of CPUE are concentrated between July and October, when the water level decreases. As conservation measure the fishermen have a plan of use, which comes guaranteed the sustainability of resources and has been avoiding the negative aggravation of environmental changes.
