Abstract

The inaja palm (Maximiliana maripa), a palm tree native to the Amazon region, produces fruits whose pulp contains starch and bioactive compounds, such as carotenoids, flavonoids, and vitamin C, which have antioxidant potential and benefits for human health. This study aimed to evaluate the phenolic compound content, antioxidant activity, and digestive enzyme inhibitory potential of inaja flour samples. The pulp was dehydrated, ground, and subjected to extraction using different solvents (water, ethanol, methanol, and acetone). Analyses were performed to determine the phenolic compound content, antioxidant capacity (DPPH, ABTS, and FRAP), and inhibition of the enzymes α-amylase and α-glucosidase. The acetone extraction showed the highest phenolic content (114.71 mg EAG/100 mL) and high antioxidant activity, especially by the ABTS method (2780.15 µmol ET/100 g). The aqueous extract inhibited α-amylase by 25.15 ± 4.03% and α-glucosidase by 28.09 ± 1.87%, indicating that the compounds present in inajá flour may be associated with these effects. These results indicate that inajá flour may represent a relevant source of antioxidants and enzyme inhibitors, with the potential to contribute to the modulation of carbohydrate digestion and the prevention of metabolic disorders, although further studies are needed to confirm these effects and explore their practical applications.
