HAVE YOU READ ABOUT FRANCISCO DE OLIVEIRA? A BIBLIOGRAPHIC REVIEW STUDY

Abstract

This article reviews the first chapter of the book, A era da Indeterminação (The Age of Indeterminacy), entitled Das Invenções à Indeterminação (From Inventions to Indeterminacy), by sociologist Francisco de Oliveira, published in 2007. The book presents the findings of a working group that investigated the political, economic, and social implications that transformed the contemporary Brazilian scenario, especially after the 1964 military coup. The objective of this analysis is to reflect on how these transformations have impacted the organization of work, education, and relations between the state and society. In this context, we defend the importance of reading as a political act, insofar as it involves positioning, awareness, and social transformation, as Freire (1989) argues. The bibliographic research methodology enabled an exploratory study in scientific databases, such as the CAPES and SCOPUS portals, Google Scholar, the ProfEPT Observatory, and some journals that have published works on Professional and Technological Education (EPT). The search focused on publications that addressed the topic, using keywords such as “Education,” “Professional Training,” “Francisco de Oliveira,” “Work,” and “EPT.” The research identified authors who provided the basis for the discussions, such as Ramos (2014), Rodrigue (1997), Silva and Rocha (2024), and Pinheiro et al. (2024). The results indicate that reading Francisco de Oliveira is not only a political act, but also a powerful tool for interpreting and understanding reality, expanding political and cultural repertoire, and developing critical thinking.
