Abstract

Discussions on the importance and implementation of Innovation Ecosystems have been gaining traction in academic agendas due to their reach and potential for sustainability. Within this context, the objective of this study was to diagnose innovative actions, technological capabilities, and the vision of the local innovation ecosystem at the Department of Science, Technology, and Innovation (SEFAZCTI). The analysis of the data revealed different manifestations of innovation within institutional entities. Although there are no radical innovations, some demonstrate incremental innovations in products and processes. The conducive environment for innovation in higher education institutions is strengthening, as evidenced by interactions with Institutions of Science and Technology (ICTs). Innovative activities were identified within business groups, although they do not yet form an effective set in the innovation process. The data can guide policies to promote R&D in innovative products/processes, highlighting challenges such as funding and costs of external technical consultancy.
