Abstract

OBJECTIVE: To map what the literature says about health care for suspected and/or confirmed cases of Coronavirus 2019 infection in neonatal units and propose a protocol. METHODS: This is the construction of a care protocol based on a scope review carried out between December/2021 and February/2022. It was based on PRISMA-ScR and the JBI protocol for scoping review. It started with the question: “What evidence is available on assistance to suspected/confirmed cases of COVID-19 in neonatal units?”. The search took place in the bases: CINAHL, LILACS, MEDLINE; SCOPUS; Web of Science; ScienceDirect, Cochrane and Embase and included 19 articles. RESULTS: Most of these from the United States; published in 2020; and with evidence VII. The publications address the use of Personal Protective Equipment by health professionals, screening and separation of suspected/confirmed patients and non-infected patients, NB testing, maintenance of rooming-in in cases of favorable clinical conditions, encouragement of breastfeeding, restriction of transit of people, guidance to the mother on precautions and discharge of the NB. CONCLUSION: It is expected that the protocol can support the conduct of professionals in neonatal care services.
