CONCEPTIONS OF STUDENTS OF A UNDERGRADUATE NUTRITION COURSE ABOUT THE HEALTH-MENTAL PROCESS

Abstract

The conceptions of the health-mental disease process of academics of the interdisciplinary bachelor's degree in health with a public university in the interior of Bahia were analyzed in the interior of Bahia, their repercussions and the confrontation measures suggested in the process. Narrative research, with a qualitative approach, based on the narratives of students of the interdisciplinary bachelor's degree in health and the bachelor's degree in nutrition at a Bahian public university. This research was approved by the Research Ethics Committee under Opinion No. 4,636,663. 60 students participated in which their narratives dealt with their perceptions and experiences under the subject of mental health as college students, and thereby emerged four empirical categories. It was observed that the health conditions aggravate the manifestations of mental disorders. That said, understanding and confronting the concepts and methodologies applied in the mental health service are important factors aiming to soften these conditions through a humanized and qualified therapy. It is suggested a reformulation and/or incorporation of a component in mental health in nutrition courses, aiming to help, in the best way, to understand the health conditions and their main potential for both students and users of the services in which they act.
