Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission file is in PDF format generated from Word or LaTeX templates provided by the magazine (see below) and without identification of the authors.
  • Relevant references related to previously published work should be included. A solid bibliography review is basic to any paper. Inadequate references may be enough reason to paper rejection.
  • Submitted paper does not have a percentage of plagiarism (Plagiarism Percent Match) above 40%.
  • The submitted paper must be accompanied by the completion of an online form, indicating 3 doctoral specialists who can serve as reviewers (Name, email, affiliation, and research field).
  • The contribution is original and unpublished, and it is not being evaluated for publication by another journal; otherwise, it is justified in "Letter to the editor".
  • The text follows the style standards and bibliographic requirements described in Guidelines for Authors, on the About Journal page.
  • The contributions of authors and collaborators follow two minimum criteria of authorship: a) Actively participate in the discussion of results; b) Review and approval of the paper final version.

Author Guidelines

The format on which this document was based is the one used by the IEEE for most of its publications and conferences. However, some changes have been made: A4 format is used and the margins have been set at 2 cm to the left and above, and 1.5 cm to the right and below. The column width has been set to 8.5 cm, with a separation of 0.5 cm between them. In addition, a page header has been right indicating the paper (which will be completed in the final editing and publishing process). Only the page number is included in the footer.

The elementary definitions of style are Times or Times New Roman font for all parts of the document, size 20 pt for the title (in the option of papers in Portuguese, it must include a title in English with 14 pt below the title in Portuguese, and abstract and keywords in English and italics below the abstract and keywords in Portuguese), 12 pt for the authors, 9 pt and italic for the line of the institution to which the authors belong, 9 pt for the abstract and keywords (in the option of papers in Portuguese, it must include an abstract and keywords in English above the abstract and keywords in Portuguese), 10 pt for the normal text, equations and 12 pt for section titles, 11 pt for the level 1 title, italic for the level 2 and 3 titles, 9 pt for the titles epigraphs of the figures, tables, and references (all these definitions are already fixed in the LaTeX class file provided). Use italics to highlight a term (not underlined).

The general structure expected for this article includes sections such as Introduction, Materials, Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions, Acknowledgments and References. These titles can be combined in pairs in the same section and the titles Future Works and Acknowledgments are totally optional. It is common for the Methods section to have another title more related to the original contribution of the article, but the remaining sections are presented with the titles listed above. If there are demonstrations or other extensive mathematical developments, it is recommended to group them in Appendices before bibliographic references.

References need to be cited in the text. Multiple references are each numbered with separated brackets. When citing a section in a book, please give the relevant page numbers. In text, refer simply to the reference number. Do not use "Ref." or "reference" except at the beginning of a sentence: "Reference [3] shows ... ." Please do not use automatic endnotes in Word, rather, type the reference list at the end of the paper using the "References" style.

Reference numbers are set to flush left and form a column of their own. The reference numbers are on the line, enclosed in square brackets. In all references, the given name of the author or editor is abbreviated to the initial only and precedes the last name. Use them all; use et al. only if names are not given. Use commas around Jr., Sr., and III in names. Abbreviate conference titles.  When citing journals, provide the issue number, page range, volume number, year, and/or month if available. When referencing a patent, provide the day and the month of issue, or application. References may not include all information; please obtain and include relevant information. Do not combine references. There must be only one reference for each number. If there is a URL included with the print reference, it can be included at the end of the reference.

Other than books, capitalize only the first word in a paper title, except for proper nouns and element symbols.

Important: Manuscripts may be rejected if authors fail to communicate for more than 60 days.

Open Science

The AJCEAM team believes in good practices and ethics in knowledge production for the development and progress of science, teaching, and academic outreach. We believe that Open Science is an important catalyst for making knowledge accessible to all people, without distinction. Open Science is built on three fundamental pillars: Open Access (to publications), Open Data (including raw data, models, specifications, and documentation), and Open Computational Processes (such as software and algorithms). Since the creation of AJCEAM, we have worked on the first pillar, so that all published articles are completely open and available for download on the AJCEAM website.

Now we also want to encourage authors to provide the data from their research to meet the second pillar. The second pillar, Open Data, allows anyone to verify the results, reproduce them, share them, and even conduct new analyses, leading to perhaps new discoveries. In this sense, we encourage authors to send us their research data. This data will be made publicly available in the AJCEAM GitHub repository at the link: https://github.com/AJCEAM.

Authors are invited to submit data during the manuscript evaluation process, either by sending a .ZIP or .RAR file through the AJCEAM system, or by providing a link to an external repository (github, gitlab, among others). In the latter case, in order to ensure the double-blind process, we suggest using the https://anonymous.4open.science/ system to convert authors' personal (or institutional) repositories into anonymous repositories.

Additionally, articles with open data will receive a seal to highlight the importance of this contribution. On the article's website, there will be both a link to the final version of the article in PDF format and a link to the research data. We make it clear that the submission of research data is optional for authors.

We understand that computer systems created can generate patents and products and, therefore, the third pillar of Open Science is a goal for the future of AJCEAM. More information on Open Science and Open Data can be found at the following links:
