Artificial Intelligence Use Policy

AI Authorship

Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) does not meet the criteria for authorship. The authorship attribute implies responsibility for the work, which cannot be applied effectively to AIs. The use of AI should be documented in the Methods section of the manuscript (or in an appropriate alternative section, if applicable).

The use of AI for copy editing and assisted improvements in human-generated texts for readability and style does not need to be declared, as long as it does not involve generative editorial work or autonomous content creation. In all cases, there must be human responsibility for the final version of the text.

Generative AI Images

Due to copyright and research integrity issues, AJCEAM does not allow the use of AI-generated images for publication. Usage may lead to manuscript rejection or article retraction.

Exceptions:

  • Images and videos directly referenced in a specific study on AI, evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
  • Use of AI tools trained with verifiable scientific datasets, respecting ethics, copyrights, and terms of use.

All exceptions must be clearly labeled as AI-generated.

Image types covered:

  • Videos, animations, photographs, scientific diagrams, illustrations, and collages.

Not included: tables, flowcharts, and simple graphs without images.

The use of non-generative AI to enhance images should be disclosed in the caption.

Use of AI by Reviewers

Peer reviewers are responsible for the accuracy of their reports, operating under the principle of mutual trust. Generative AI tools can produce inaccurate or biased information and do not respect the confidentiality of manuscripts.

For this reason, reviewers should not upload manuscripts to generative AI tools, under penalty of invalidation of the evaluation.
