O Significado Cultural do Wilderness e o Pensamento Ecológico em Desert Solitaire: A Season in the Wilderness

This article aims to realize the concept of culture and the cultural concept of wilderness, in American history and in Edward Abbey's book Desert Solitaire: A Season in the Wilderness. The evolution of the meaning of wilderness also allowed us to understand a change of behavior, as regards the relation of man to the desert, in the sense of preserving this place, a practice that is configured as an ecological attitude. Thinking ecologically and practicing eco-activism is another cultural process in the man’s history. Therefore, the study on the conception of this spatial element showed us how a habit begins and how it establishes itself as a cultural trait.
