Abstract

The paper is a critical analysis of the relationship between animals and humans in literature, specifically in the novel Fifteen Dogs (2015) by Canadian author André Alexis (1957-). Our main aim is to show how animals occupy a disadvantageous position within human society and the mechanisms that enable and maintain the status quo. As well as looking at the relationships between animals themselves. To this end, we will make use of theories involving vulnerability and studies of the representation of animals in literature. In conclusion, we argue that the work is an outstanding example of how literature can explore themes and topics involving animality.
