Abstract

The article analyzes the figure of the witch in the novel The Witching Hour (1990) by Anne Rice from a feminist perspective, focusing on the concept of power. It explores how the witch, traditionally associated with transgression, reflects power relations between men and women within a patriarchal society. Based on the principles of second-wave feminism, the study highlights the historical oppression of women and their exclusion from the exercise of power. It concludes that, although Rice's witches appear to be strong and independent female figures, the narrative emphasizes their vulnerability and dependence, questioning their validity as a feminist symbol.
