O PÓS-COLONIALISMO NA OBRA DE MIA COUTO, A CONFISSÃO DA LEOA

Abstract

This article aims to address the consequences of colonialism in Mozambican women's life based on the reading of the novel "A confissão da leoa" by Mia Couto. The traits of the coloniality present in the lives of female characters will be investigated, mainly from the protagonist of the novel, Mariamar, and observed how these traits are arranged in the culture, religion, and traditions. Therefore, through the point of view of feminist studies and postcolonial studies, the way in which Mozambican women were ignored and subjugated to a subordinate role, will be examined and how the context of the novel in a postcolonial period followed by a civil war after the independence of the country, this contributes to the way of thinking about the Mozambican woman, who still suffering in a violent system legitimized by the traditions, moreover, these can be related to the practices of the Portuguese colonialist. Will be reflected yet about how can the literature contribute to improving discussions about the questions which still nowadays segregating people.
