TOPONYMICS MOTIVATION ANALYSIS IN THE CREATION OF LIBRAS’ SIGNS IN THE FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF NORTH TOCANTINS - UFNT
Abstract
The act of naming things is a human need, may it be in an oral language or in a sign language. In some cases, it is possible to track down the motivating influences that would culminate in the choosing process and in the acceptance of a place’s name or of an institution. In this article we seek to look back on the inspiration sources of the Libras’ sign creation – the sign of the Federal University of North Tocantins (UFNT). The bibliographical research about Toponymy helped us to fulfill this study’s objective, which is to comprehend how does the process of a Libras sign creation take place, and we have also used a documental research to describe the process of the University sign creation. We have used the following authors to develop this work: Dick (1990) (1992), Seabra (2014), Souza-Junior (2012), Carneiro (2016) and Carneiro; Souza; Costa; Ludwig (2019), as well as consultations to the Tutor University website that is responsible for the process of transition, that is, the Federal University of Tocantins (UFT). As our results, we have registered the details of the creation of the sign in Libras of the new University in Tocantins and we have observed the toponymic motivation in this sign language referent.
