HAPPINESS
a philosophical question

Analyzing the construction of philosophical thought, it is possible to observe that the discussions about the theme of happiness have been recurrent and, even though it has been object of confrontation by several philosophers, in different historical, sociocultural and economic contexts, happiness is an axiomatic question in the 21st century. The present synthesis aims to ground the qualified debate about happiness within the philosophical perspective, discussing the origin and conceptualization of philosophy and notions about happiness. In analyzing the studies about happiness, it is observed that correlated questions have been used to gauge the level of happiness of the world population and that subjective questions related to the individuality of being have been disregarded. In this sense it is considered valid the resumption of the philosophical exercise proposed by Socrates that has in the self-knowledge the primordial conditions to know the human spirit and its capacity to know the truth. Thus, it is recommended that the investigative exercise on happiness be accompanied by a philosophical approach, based on a method that considers issues related to the subjectivity of individuals and their perception about what is in fact happiness and the factors associated with being happy.
