Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has presented complex impacts on society, particularly affecting vulnerable groups such as the elderly and increasing cases of violence. It is assumed that isolation, a necessary measure to contain the emergency's impacts, may have been one of the contributing factors. Violence against the elderly is a serious public health issue, yet it still lacks academic visibility in Brazil. This study aims to present the forms of violence against the elderly during COVID-19 through the analysis of 13 articles on the subject, along with DATASUS data. There has been a significant increase in violence cases, attributed to factors including isolation, lack of adherence to safety measures by the elderly, and other challenges. Violence, whether physical, sexual, psychological, economic, abandonment, neglect, or self-neglect, is a structural, institutional, and interpersonal problem, requiring immediate social protection policies prioritizing the well-being of the elderly.
