DIRETRIZES PARA SUSTENTABILIDADE URBANA A PARTIR DA ANÁLISE DA PAISAGEM EM OCUPAÇÕES EM MANGUEZAIS

CASO DA FAVELA DE PALAFITAS SANTISTA - DIQUE DA VILA GILDA

Abstract

Since the late 19th century, population growth and urban expansion in Santos have transformed the coastal zone into a modern, tourist-friendly, and prosperous region. In contrast, environmentally sensitive areas in the city's northwestern region, such as mangroves and preservation zones, have been occupied by precarious settlements due to the unequal and unsustainable demand for habitable space and infrastructure. The lack of adequate solutions, both from the market and public programs, has restricted people's access to basic rights and a more equitable city. This article proposes a new approach to urban planning in the Dique da Vila Gilda community, one of the largest stilt-house slums in Latin America. Based on sustainable development and landscape urbanism guidelines, the study employs qualitative methods such as direct observation, field visits, and interviews to formulate strategies focused on social inclusion, environmental rehabilitation, and the creation of new economic opportunities.The proposals include sustainable urbanization, dignified housing, disaster risk reduction, and the implementation of green infrastructure connected to an efficient mobility network. These measures aim to ensure universal access to a safe, inclusive, accessible, and resilient city, enhancing quality of life and fostering sustainable transformations in Santos and similar communities.
