Abstract

This study investigates the competitive environment surrounding corn ethanol production in one of Latin America's leading industries, INPASA. The methodology was based on Farina's (1999) approach, addressing aspects of the institutional, organizational, and technological environment. The results indicate that although sugarcane continues to play a central role in ethanol production, corn offers alternative opportunities due to the abundance of raw material and the possibilities for utilizing by-products in the ethanol production chain. The study highlights the importance of understanding strategies in the energy and food sectors to drive progress in this segment.
