Abstract

Despite the importance of evaluative scales, the diagnosis for autism is eminently clinical. Since the discovery of this condition in the specialized literature, three components have been essential to its confirmation. All autistic subjects, somehow, present marked difficulties in social interaction, in functional communication, restrictions and repetitions in their behavior. In this paper, I will focus my attention only on restrictive and repetitive acts, understanding them as stereotyped behaviors in the autistic condition. With numerous instances of my professional practice, I will argue that stereotyped action, characterized by repetition, functional restraint, and rigidity, contains motor, sensory, behavioral, and cognitive changes. I argue that we need to pay attention to them because they represent an important content for the diagnosis in autism.
