Abstract

The objective of this study was to present the spatial distribution of the municipalities of Tocantins, in order to test the hypothesis of the per capita GDP interference in the HDI, where municipalities with high GDP per capita are surrounded by neighbors in the same situation, in the same way for the HDI variable, as well as the existence of a spatial relationship between the two variables. In the execution of this research an exploratory analysis of the spatial data – AEDE.For this purpose, the Human Development Indexes of the Municipalities –HDIM and the Gross Domestic Product – GDP per capita of the cities of Tocantins were used. The results presented evidences of the relation of positive spatial dependence between the variables GDP per capita and HDIM, where microregions with agglomeration of cities with high GDP per capita were identified, coinciding with regions with high HDI, as well as for regions with low values for these economic and social variables, indicating the existence of the overflow effect for the neighboring municipalities.
