Urban Influences of the New Town Program (GBR) on Palmas Project.

Abstract

This article composes one of the axes of the research "Teorias Urbanísticas e Novas Cidades: documentação e pesquisa sobre a concepção do projeto urbanístico de Palmas-TO", and aims to continue a research activity that began in 2011 at UFT. Considering the scarcity of academic studies and research on the "last planned capital of the twentieth century in the world", this article intends to go deeper into new cities development in European national programs after Brasilia, such as: i) the experience New Town Program ", in particular the Milton Keynes urban plan for the city program, the main international urban reference made by the Palmas project’s authors, and (ii) the Plan de Almere, the new city of the “Nouvelle Program Villes", an influence not assumed by the authors, but always remembered by researchers. In addition to these, the"Coral Ridge" proposal of urbanization in  Florida, USA, an experiment that was the subject of a field visit prior to the elaboration of Palmas project by the co-authors of Palmas, was also investigated..
