Abstract

The multivariate calibration associated with NIR spectroscopy was used to determine the energy and quality parameters of the coffee biomass as an alternative method to the current reference methods. In addition to determining multiple chemical constituents in a short time interval, the proposed method is cheaper than traditional and minimizes waste generation. Thus, the multivariate calibration models employing partial least squares regression (PLS) were applied to spectra obtained by the near infrared were developed to predict the following properties of the coffee bark: moisture, ash, fixed carbon and volatile content. Significant results were obtained with R2 cal, val values higher than 0.76, relative errors lower than 12.00%, low number of anomalous samples removed, and a low number of factors were required for the construction of the calibration models. Therefore, the method proposed in this study shows the relevance of the methodology used, both from the economic point of view when evaluating the quality parameters (because it is a more cost-effective method), and also environmental, since waste from the industry Of coffee were used and demonstrated the potential of use for energy production.
