Abstract

The term "entrepreneurship" has become popular in recent decades, having consolidated itself primarily in the private sector. Recently this concept has been used in the public sector to characterize organizations that accept risks and challenges and encourage innovative actions to better meet the needs of the population. When this occurs, what is known as Public Intrapreneurship occurs. Thus, the objective of this article is to conduct a literature review that demonstrates the application of the main concepts of entrepreneurship in public service. To achieve this objective, a literature review was conducted using the Scopus, Google Scholar, and Scielo databases. In these databases, keywords were applied to collect works published within a five-year period. In addition, classic articles cited in the works included in the first selection were also used. Regarding the classification, the research is characterized as qualitative, applied, and exploratory. As a result, it was found that, although the concept is already widespread in the public sector, the practical application of public entrepreneurship still lacks further empirical evidence. Furthermore, the simple transposition of practices from the private sector to the public sector has not proven sufficient for theory to translate into practical effects.
