Abstract

This study aimed to understand how technical assistance and rural extension (ATER), provided by Emater/RS-Ascar in the municipality of Três Passos, RS, contributes to the quality of life of elderly women farmers. The research is justified by the social invisibility of these women, the advancing aging population, and the persistent historical gender inequalities. It also sought to highlight the work of Emater/RS-Ascar as a public inclusion policy. The methodology used was a case study, with a qualitative approach, through structured interviews with seven elderly women participating in two of the institution's groups. The results demonstrated that extension actions go beyond technical support, acting as a tool for social inclusion, emotional strengthening, and personal, cultural, and identity enhancement. The activities developed in these groups offer support, access to information, and the exchange of experiences, contributing to addressing social isolation and strengthening a sense of belonging. It is concluded that rural extension plays an essential role not only in productive qualification, but also in the emotional, social and community well-being of these women, highlighting the importance of Emater/RS-Ascar's work in promoting citizenship and recognizing female protagonism in rural areas.
