QUALITY OF DIRECT SEEDING IN SOYBEAN SUBJECT TO VARIATIONS IN SEEDER DISPLACEMENT

Abstract

Sowing quality is crucial for achieving high yields in soybean crops, directly affecting plant stand establishment and final productivity. This study evaluated the effect of different sowing speeds (4 km/h, 8 km/h, and 12 km/h) on seedling emergence, seed distribution, and soybean yield. The experiment was conducted in Chapecó, SC, during the 2023/2024 growing season, using a strip-block design. Results showed that higher speeds (8 km/h and 12 km/h) reduced seedling emergence, increased seed deposition failures, and led to a higher occurrence of double plants, compromising stand uniformity. Additionally, the 4 km/h speed resulted in a higher number of pods and grains per plant, leading to greater productivity (77.28 bags/ha) compared to higher speeds (57.40 bags/ha at 8 km/h and 55.80 bags/ha at 12 km/h). It is concluded that moderate sowing speeds, combined with proper equipment calibration, are essential to ensure planting quality and maximize soybean yield potential.
