Abstract

This research aimed to investigate child labor in the Gurupi administrative region, covering cities such as Alvorada, Araguaçu, and Gurupi. The study identified the main activities performed by children and adolescents and their implications for health and education. A survey was conducted of institutions within the System for the Protection of Rights, followed by contact with the Municipal Council for the Rights of Children and Adolescents (CMDCA) to identify entities with child labor data. These institutions completed a questionnaire, and data were analyzed using Bardin's Content Analysis. Results showed scarce information on child labor in these institutions. A total of 28 children and adolescents, mostly male, aged 5 to 15, were found in child labor, engaged in activities like street food sales, work in mechanical workshops, scavenging in dumpsites, and domestic work—all listed in the Worst Forms of Child Labor (TIP). Most social actors in the responding institutions considered child labor wrong. The research highlights the need to monitor and combat child labor to protect these individuals and promote their rights.
