Abstract

The city of Teresina has 15 riverside parks, distributed along the banks of the Parnaíba and Poti rivers, in order to preserve and conserve them. Regarded as the only leisure place in the Southeast area of Teresina–PI that takes advantage of the banks of the Poti river, activities in the Curva São Paulo park, located in the São Sebastião neighborhood, emerged spontaneously, as nearby residents already used it. , around the 1990s. Despite its leisure potential, for almost 35 years, the resort suffered from the flooding of the Poti River and vandalism that led to theft of equipment from kiosks and public facilities, which contributed to the devaluation and distancing of the population from the park and contact with the river. Thus, the article will aim to discuss the introduction of environmental laws in the capital and the emergence of the park in this context, using satellite photographic surveys and exploratory and documentary research. Soon, it was found that the repairs were insufficient to attract the regular visitors. Thus, despite the transformations that have occurred, this resort will be able to help analyze the needs of the population, as well as point out and rescue its urban potential.
