Abstract

This study analyzes the withdrawals of physicians participating in the "Mais Médicos para o Brasil" Program (PMMB), a federal government initiative focused on improving healthcare delivery in the Unified Health System (SUS). Since its implementation, the program has faced challenges in retaining professionals in areas of difficult access. The research reveals that most withdrawals occur among newly graduated physicians who leave the program to enter residency programs, highlighting the need to value training in Family and Community Medicine. Withdrawal rates vary among physician profiles, with notably higher turnover observed in the CRM Brazil profile. The study also indicates that analyzing the reasons for withdrawals can provide crucial insights for developing effective strategies that promote the retention of these professionals in the most vulnerable regions. The implications of this work are significant for formulating public policies that ensure better access to healthcare, as well as contributing to the creation of measures that encourage the retention and satisfaction of physicians in areas of need.
