Abstract

This research analyzed childhood vaccination coverage in Brazil from 2012 to 2022, using information from DATASUS. Historically one of the leading global leaders in free immunization programs offered by the Unified Health System (SUS), Brazil has seen a concerning decline in vaccination rates in recent years. The drop was driven by factors such as the Covid-19 pandemic, the spread of misinformation about vaccines, and a reduced perception of risk after decades of successful vaccination campaigns. Most of the vaccines examined, including DTP, Polio, and Tetra Viral, showed a negative correlation, signaling a significant reduction in vaccination coverage. The Yellow Fever vaccine was the only one that showed an increase in adherence. The findings highlight the urgent need for actions to reverse this trend, particularly through educational campaigns and government policies that strengthen the National Immunization Program (PNI), ensuring greater participation in vaccines and protecting the child population against preventable diseases.
