Abstract

The demand for renewable energies, including the forest biomass, whose crops are dependent on the climate, makes it important to elaborate the agroclimatic zoning of eucalyptus, in the Matopiba region, which is considered the last agricultural frontier in Brazil. This study aimed to elaborate the agroclimatic zoning of Eucalyptus urophylla for Matopiba, considering the possible climate changes. The meteorological database was used to calculate the water balance considering two AWCs, and associating it with the species aptitude classes and using the results of the regional models, Eta-HadGEM2-ES and Eta-MIROC5, and scenarios RCP 4.5 and 8.5 (2041 and 2070). Agroclimatic zoning for current climate and climate change were generated. Considering the current climate, it was observed that the ‘apt’ and ‘marginal’

aptitude classes occur in 15% and 33% of the region, respectively and located in the southern and centralwestern parts. The results of the models and scenarios did not show ‘apts’ areas, and the areas with ‘marginal’ class were insignificant. There was a significant increase in ‘restricted’ and ‘unapt’ areas, which together range from 95.5% to 100% of the total area. Considering the technologies currently adopted and confirming these projections, the production of E. urophylla could be unfeasible in this region.
