Abstract

The Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench type C4 plant with characteristics similar to sugar cane is an alternative
for off-season in the plants, for the production of bioethanol and combustion in substitution of sugarcane
bagasse and other energy sources in the various industrial segments. This work aimed to evaluate the
agronomic performance and the bioenergy potential of sorghum and biomass cultivars in Tocantins.
The genotypes Malibu (S) (S), BRS 511 (S), Palo alto (B) (B) and cultivarBRS 716 (B) were evaluated at
the Agrotechnology Center in Palmas (TO) and a completely randomized block design with 3 blocks, 4
treatments and 15 replicates, the average population being 134 to 166 thousand plants / ha-1. The BRS 511
(S) genotypes with 3.51m and the cultivar BRS 716 (B) with 5.61m showed higher green matter (PMV) and
dry matter (DM) yields, with 108.58 t / 32.17 t DM /ha-1 and 166.34 t /ha-1 and 66.96 t DM./ha-1, respectively.
Cultivar BRS511 (S) (S) stood out for its high stalk productivity (76.1%), juice volume of 46,690 L/ha-1 and
°Brix of 14.73, directly influencing ethanol production. Cultivar BRS 716 (B) showed the highest potential for
heat generation with 18.43MJ/kg-1 of dry matter and potential energy of 1235.81 GJ/ha-1
