Abstract

This article is dedicated to an analysis of the socio-historical movement of Brazilian Social Service, from its institutionalization with a conservative, hygienist bias, focused on the interests of the bourgeoisie, its process of attempting to break with conservatism, to a profession with the social leadership in defense of the interests of the working class, and minorities such as the LGBTQIA+ population, black people, indigenous people, quilombolas, riverside, rural and waterside populations and population segments that are in a situation of social vulnerability.
