Abstract

In recent decades, inclusion has become a widely discussed topic regarding people with disabilities (PWDs), including the deaf. Different legislations were implemented to ensure broad access for deaf people to education at different levels, as well as to ensure the availability of vacancies for PWDs. Despite this legislation, the deaf community is not always able to effectively enter the job market. This article presents a discussion on the challenges of including deaf people with higher education in the job market. It starts with an analysis on the inclusion of the deaf community in higher education, followed by a discussion on the inclusion of PWDs in the job market until effectively addressing the inclusion of deaf people with higher education in the job market. It appears that professional qualification is not always valued when offering vacancies, as well as there is a lack of conditions for the full integration of deaf people in some work contexts.
