Abstract

The study aims to evaluate the implementation of linking pregnant women to the reference maternity hospital for childbirth and obstetric care in cases of complications during pregnancy. Descriptive, cross-sectional and quantitative research, developed with 200 pregnant women who sought care in the emergency department of a tertiary-level public maternity hospital from July to December 2020. The association between knowledge about attachment and the topic having been explained during prenatal care (p=0.001). Women who obtained information about attachment during prenatal care were almost 7 times more likely to know what attachment is compared to those who did not have the same information (OR=6.95). Pregnant women linked to a maternity hospital tend not to seek care in other maternity hospitals (p=0.001). An association was observed between attachment and the region to which the pregnant woman belongs (p=0.001). Patients at usual risk have less need for obstetric care during pregnancy. Patients classified as medium risk have a greater need for obstetric care (p=0.004). Thus, the lack of guidance on attachment during prenatal care can affect women's knowledge and increase the chances of making a pilgrimage in search of care both for childbirth and in cases of complications during pregnancy.
